My role as a Church reprentative for the Bible Society is to become the central point for receiving information and appeals which I can bring to the attention of my local church and church members throughtout Eastbourne - championing the fight against Bible Poverty.

I need to be more pro-active in this regard in future and I shall be writing some article for the Church magazine in order to share some of this information.

I have a passion for the Bible and a general knowledge of the Bible although, like every one, need to be encouraged to read the Bible more.  I have found prayer groups I attend and the St. Mary's Home Groups a great encouragement in improving my knowledge and ability to share in this respect, and I would encourage all church members to join one of these groups if they do not already do so.

Like many christians, I have found studying my relegion and it history of great benefit, and, over the years, I have attempted to develop my knowledge by studying many of the education courses developed by the christian community.  I have completed courses such as Alpha, Bishops Certificate, and I hold the Southampton University Diploma of Christian Studies following a course of study at the Chichester Theologial College.

The Bible Society is passionate about ending Bible poverty – and working for a day when the Bible’s God-given revelation, inspiration and wisdom is shaping the lives and communities of people everywhere.

The last task is urgent because of what people, communities and even nations lose by not coming to embrace the Bible's life-changing message.

The task is also huge because –

• More than 4,500 languages still wait for even one book of the Bible
• Though a billion people can’t read only three per cent of languages have the Bible in audio
• Every 5 seconds someone goes blind but the Bible in Braille exists in only 30 languages
• A billion people live on less than 60p a day – making the Bible a luxury they can’t afford
• In our own land the Bible is no longer a point of reference for everyday life
